Contained about Girieud
Pierre Girieud is one of the rare painters of his generation, who is not satisfied to put two red apples and a green apple on a corner of the tablecloth, he has the sense of decoration and a sumptuous imagination. The Temptation of St. Anthony, three years ago, the Homage to Gauguin, so discussed, revealed his taste for the vast composition. His series, which is currently inspired by the Bible (dance of the daughters of Israel in view of the Promised Land, Ruth and Booz, etc.), affirm the same merits. Girieud obtained by juxtapositions of flat colors effects of a striking and new color. The forms are not less curious and certain gestures, those of virgins who dance or gatherers of clusters with the trellis, appear of a rhythm quite exquisite. The poet becomes a realistic observer when he describes the indigo sky of Siena, the domes and cloisters of San Giminiano and the silent small Tuscan city. We are also delighted to see his beautiful interpretation of the Three Graces Piccolomini.
