Contained about Girieud
The management of the National Museums will present, as we announced, from the 20th to the 24th inclusive, at the Museum of the Tuileries Orangery (place de the Concorde) the important panels, executed by Mr. Pierre Girieud for the hall, of the Council of the University of Poitiers. These panels were ordered from Mr. Pierre Girieud by Mr. François- Poncet then Under-Secretary of State for Fine Arts, at the request of Mr. Léon Pineau, rector of the University of Poitiers, on the occasion of the celebration of the fifth centenary of this University. The general council of the department has participated in the subsidy of this work. Four of these panels representing Lycurgus and the Spartan Oath, Homer among the shepherds, Aesculapius at Epidaurus, Pythagoras and his School, respectively symbolize the Law, Literature, Medicine and Science. A panel is devoted to glory from the University of Poitiers and group the illustrations of this institution: Saint Fortunatus, Saint Radegonde, Saint Gregory of Tours, Charles VII, the Duke of Berri, Ronsard, Joachim du Bellay, Rabelais, Descartes, etc., Two other large panels frame the monument to the dead of the University: they evoke glorious France and painful France. Finally, eight monochrome figures symbolize the pedagogical Virtues. These panels, which honor as much the artist who designed and executed them that the University which requested them, make up a whole to the glory of French Thought and Art. It is in this capacity that the management of the National Museums insisted on presenting them at the Musée de l'Orangerie before their departure for Poitiers. A BANQUET. IN HONOR OF PIERRE GIRIEUD Friends and admirers of beauty painter Pierre Girieud are preparing to offer him a banquet on the occasion of the exhibition, at the Musée de l'Orapgerie, of his panels for the University of Poitiers. This banquet will take place next Thursday, at 8 p.m., 46 bis-, Rue Saint Didier.
