Contained about Girieud
The other evening, the fairground theater installed on the place of Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin - summer homeland of artists - gave its farewell performance; a terrible drama was to be performed, the fourth act of which takes place at the Court of Assize. As with previous performances, several roles were entrusted to amateurs - painters vacationing in the country - and after dark intrigues, tortuous machinations, the painter Pierre Girieud had succeeded in being entrusted with the important role of president of the assizes , originally held by the painter Zig Brunner. The latter, who was assigned a very small role, resolved to take revenge. It was easy for him, because he knew that the sight of a frog was enough to make Girieud faint, although he liked to paint these frogs. So; on the evening of the performance he slipped an enormous frog, captured on the banks of the Morin, into his pocket. Then, when the curtain rose on the fourth act, Brunner, a humble witness, approached the table behind which sat Girieud in a red robe and placed his frog there, simply saying - exhibit! Of course, the animal jumped and the president of the assizes, having uttered a cry of disgust, threw himself back so quickly that he fell, dragging in his fall the chair and the table of his neighbor, the assessor Georges Delaw. ... This audience incident was the success of the evening.
