| On the occasion of the exhibition of decorative paintings by Pierre Girieud, of which this notebook has already spoken and which will be extended until the 26th, the painter's friends and admirers offered him a banquet which was very warm. One hundred and fifty guests and one hundred letters of apology have proven the sympathy and esteem that Pierre Girieud enjoys among his peers. the veterans of art, and a crowd of young painters surrounded him, with a large number of notables of all kinds, the same who once crowded at the inauguration of the monument Gasquet, great friend of Pierre Girieud, as so many artists of his generation.
Xavier de Magallon, in a speech greeted with applause in almost every sentence, brought out the meaning of the work both so classic and so modern of Girieud, and of all the effort of French art during this period.
Mr. Gérardot de Sermoize read a beautiful poem in honor of the artist we were celebrating. (...) |
