Contained about Girieud
Mr. Pierre Girieud returned from Greece. We found in his workshop, the painter barely a little brown. The skin of Provence is saturated with sun ... Barely a little brown but still in ecstasy, like, yesterday, Zadkine. - I had an admirable trip: this country is incredible. All that is said about it is nothing compared to reality. As for the Greeks, they are exquisite; understanding, attentive, they welcomed me perfectly, making my life as good as possible. I knew I stayed there for four months, I couldn't tear myself away. I haven't done the thousandth part of what we can do ... It would take five or six lives for that! I only brought back 28 paintings, done as always on the admirable paper by Gaspard Maillol. I wanted to do more but first I wanted to try to understand the country, and I went for a walk before working. But I'm going to show you what I did and that I plan to exhibit in Paris from May 11 to 20. And Girieud shows me his works ... They are very advanced, luminous to the extreme, built with a master's hand, worthy of Poussin's landscapes. It is a sequel that reveals Girieud, who raises him above himself. Provence had prepared it in a way, and now Greece is exalting it ... In front of the monuments that seem to fall on their own as if to make better place for the landscapes, eternal inspirer, Girieud painted with a peace of soul and eyes equal to that of this immeasurable Hellade which remains divine, despite the centuries , to the point that those who see it, who live in it, come back with a purified spirit, a higher vision. But of all this, in May, our eminent friend, Mr. René Jean will speak, and better than the signatory of these lines, if only because he had the happy luck of seeing Girieud paint, in Greece, this unique series in his work.
