Contained about Girieud
Does an artist gain from traveling? If he enriches his memory, if he classifies beautiful memories, will his art benefit from it? Pierre Girieud answers us with forty paintings which he brings back from Greece. It's a nice road book. He set out to paint it as far as we know him. Let us be grateful to him for not having forced the note and for having respected this light of Greece whose luster is not irritating as in certain Mediterranean countries. This demolished Greece that Girieud shows us, was the atmosphere different at the time of its splendor? But why does an artist always give us a country, a country once famous for its architecture, only the image of its ruins. Will present-day Greece never have what it takes to tempt a painter who thinks of modern poets who know how to get out of mythology and leave Olympus, its gods and goddesses, the three graces or the return of Eurydice without to suspect that the contemporary Greeks much more expressive than the dead in the fables have all the same inherited a more sensitive nature.
