| Pierre Girieud spent last year, during the summer, several months in Greece, and he brought back from his stay some thirty paintings which he exhibited at the Druet gallery. He observed a lot, but he also meditated a lot under the sky of the Hellade. It was imbued not only with the light, the character of Delphi, Athens, Delos, but also their soul. He went around the Acropolis and fixed it in several aspects, in different settings, with a different light. He also painted a series of small paintings, of a sober style, where everything is only harmony, the monuments with their balanced proportions, the ruins, the undulations of the land, the greenery, the cypresses, the olive trees. All of this appears both simple and great. Girieud, to tell the truth, of Latin origin, spirit nourished by humanism, accustomed to translate the sites of Provence, was well prepared to render the poetry of Greece. Her gifts seem to have found their full potential. One cannot achieve more nobility in truth. - Reproduction landscape |
