Contained about Girieud
The painter Pierre Girieud died from a long and very painful illness. He was 72 years old. Girieud was a great Mediterranean artist, very cultivated, animated by the love of ancient Greece and who knew how to rediscover the classic rhythms of Provence. He was in his element when he was given large decorations. He knew his job as a fresco artist well and it was with the fresco that he decorated the chapel of Saint-Pancrace at the Château de Pradines in Vaucluse. He also decorated the faculty of Poitiers. At the last Salon d'Automne, he exhibited a series of drawings evoking the Passion with great character. Admitted to the artists' retirement home, he had to leave it to enter the hospital. This is where he died. This lover of Provence had been one of the most fervent Montmartrois of the great era; a critic once nicknamed him "Fra Angelico" of the Lapin Agile. We liked him, for his talent, his spirit, his often earthy cheerfulness and the righteousness of his behavior. The funeral will take place tomorrow Thursday at 9 am in the church of Nogent-Sur-Marne.
