| Pierre Girieud has just died. Sick for many months, his disappearance saddens his many friends. Born in Paris in 1876, came to Marseilles as a young man, he had Joachim Gasquet, Paul Valéry, Alfred Lombard and most of the artists of his generation. Pierre Girieud united the love of ancient Greece with the cult of Gauguin. With the same happiness using wax painting and oil painting, he celebrated Mediterranean sites in numerous landscapes. He drew up allegories of Music and Dance, painted frescoes at the castle of Pradines, decorated the council room of the University of Poitiers, executed the decorations of Orpheus. The great hall of the town hall of Ivry was entirely decorated with his paintings with the help of a team working under his orders. His talent also manifested itself in printmaking. He was a great laborious exhibitor at the Independents and at the Salon d'automne, where he counted on the committee until illness removed him.
His funeral took place tomorrow Thursday at 9 am in the church of Nogent-sur-Marne. |
