First a vibrant, colorful art, with a monumental tendency, which finds its fulfillment in Fauvism. Then this art strips, becomes austere. And in contact with the Sienese masters rediscovers a kind of classicism which is not without grandeur. The colorist has become tender, the powerful designer of the great nudes of 1911 searches for style, attenuates his palette and even makes it deliberately severe.
