| At a recent last Show - I don't know if it was Autumn or the Independents, a Girieud room gave us a taste of what a more complete retrospective would be. Maurice Gallery, which specializes in a certain quality of painters, presents Girieud to us this week.
A very moving exhibition, the memory of the disappeared being far from being erased.
Admittedly, it was not with Girieud the thundering cymbals; this solid, calm, measured art does not use shattering shards. The painter is part of a tradition where Maurice Denis brings the broad lines and where the achievements of a life consecrated 'to the patient observation of nature and the beautiful model are inscribed in large strokes full of nobility.
From the slightest study to very composed canvases, each of the works on display is to be seen. We find there the soul of a simple and good man who was an authentic painter with a breath powerful enough to ensure his posterity. |
