| Mr. Girieud has lived for a long time in Italy, mainly in Tuscany, and has taken a taste for the noble style of the old Sienese masters. Many of his works, which, however, have an accentuated personality character, are affected by this beneficial influence. His naked figures have a remarkable behavior. And these same qualities are found in his portraits, like that of Miss M. de Magallon, whose pure face stands out against a harmonious landscape. Mr. Girieud also exhibits Italian and Provençal landscapes, still lifes. finally, a very curious cardboard of a fresco, Adoration of the King and Shepherds, executed in the Saint Pancrace Chapel at the Château de Pradines. |
